A Disney partnership for Dude Perfect. TikTok-backed series starring Hannah Stocking and Adam Rose. More ways for podcasters to turn listeners into paying members.
This week’s creator economy news stretched from entertainment and subscriptions to shopping and professional expertise. Familiar platforms are giving creators new ways to reach audiences, while agency buyers are looking for specialists who can help brands work with them.
Here is what stood out across the creator economy during October 14–21.
Dude Perfect gets the Disney treatment
Dude Perfect’s next trick comes with access to one of the biggest names in entertainment. On October 15, Disney announced a company-wide creative partnership spanning entertainment, sports, consumer products, parks and experiences.
The group will produce Disney-inspired content for its own channels. Selected new content and a selection of its existing short-form library will also appear across Disney+, ESPN and Disney social channels. Planned collaborations include next year’s Super Bowl LXI and the 50th anniversary of Star Wars.
The library component makes this especially interesting. A creator business can build something that keeps finding new distribution after its original upload. For Disney, the partnership brings an established audience and a recognizable format into several parts of its business. For Dude Perfect, it opens opportunities well beyond the next video. Disney did not disclose financial terms. Disney announcement
TikTok puts creators in the cast and behind the scenes
TikTok and MADE BY US STUDIOS announced a partnership on October 14 to co-produce creator-led microseries for TikTok and PineDrama. MADE BY US is powered by creator-management company MADE BY ALL.
The initial projects include Player, a romantic revenge thriller featuring Hannah Stocking, who also has co-story and executive-producer credits. The Knock stars Adam Rose and Zaria Simone, with music by Moby.
These are useful examples of how creator talent can move into commissioned entertainment. The audience relationship helps get attention, while a story, cast and production team give viewers a reason to return. Stocking’s role also shows how participation can extend beyond appearing on camera. Release dates and the financial arrangements were not disclosed. TikTok announcement
Spotify expands the membership business
Spotify began rolling out its expanded Memberships offering on October 20 across 34 markets, giving eligible shows on Spotify for Creators and Megaphone more ways to package paid access.
Creators can set their own prices, offer multiple tiers and put exclusive audio or video behind a membership. Spotify says creators receive a 90% revenue share. Launch participants include Sam Harris, Two Hot Takes and YMH Studios.
One detail deserves attention: creators can export contact information for members who opt to share it. That gives a paying audience relationship more practical value beyond the listening app.
For podcast businesses, the opportunity is to build recurring support alongside advertising. Whether that becomes a meaningful revenue stream will depend on the offer, conversion and retention. The rollout gives creators more options; it is too early to judge the results. Spotify announcement
Billion Dollar Boy buys into B2B creators
Professional audiences had their own deal this week. Billion Dollar Boy announced its acquisition of Creator Authority on October 14, adding the B2B influencer agency and LinkedIn Marketing Partner founded by Brendan Gahan and Cassie Jackson.
The acquisition brings specialist LinkedIn capabilities, enterprise-client experience and additional US reach. A week later, Billion Dollar Boy announced an advisory board with a remit that includes acquisitions and integration. Together, the announcements point to a buyer investing in both specialist services and the ability to combine businesses. The acquisition price was not disclosed. LinkedIn supplied a complementary development on October 15. Its In-Stream Ads test will share revenue with selected US creators, while Advice Sessions let eligible US Business Premium subscribers offer paid consultations through booking, payment and video tools.
The advertising program is still a limited test. Even so, these developments show several ways a professional audience can support a business: brand campaigns, advertising and direct access to expertise. LinkedIn announcement
AliExpress and YouTube widen the shopping opportunity
AliExpress and YouTube announced plans on October 20 to expand their affiliate partnership to the US, Brazil, the UK and Germany, following their South Korean collaboration earlier this year.
Eligible creators will be able to discover products through YouTube Studio and tag them in long-form videos, Shorts and livestreams. Purchases are completed on AliExpress.
The appeal is straightforward: a product recommendation can earn revenue across more formats and markets. For agencies and creator businesses, that creates more room to develop commerce services alongside sponsorships. The announcement establishes the expansion plan; it does not yet tell us how much creators will earn or how much shopping activity it will generate. AliExpress announcement
Axel Springer builds around individual voices
Axel Springer announced its own creator platform on October 19, beginning with Paul Ronzheimer and RONZHEIMER.
Axel Springer Creators combines production, technology, marketing and distribution support with entrepreneurial freedom and financial participation for creators. The announcement did not disclose the financial split or establish who owns the intellectual property.
It is another way for an established media company to work with personality-led businesses. The publisher contributes infrastructure and commercial support; the individual brings the voice and audience connection. How those roles are reflected in economics and control will matter as the model develops. Axel Springer announcement
Fresh capital for short-form campaigns
Foresight completed a £4 million growth investment in Round, announced October 14. The agency combines creator and short-form campaigns with technology, serving music, entertainment and consumer brands.
The investment will support expansion in the US and Asia-Pacific, technology development and hiring. Alongside the Creator Authority acquisition, it offers a different example of capital entering the sector: funding an agency’s next stage of growth. The ownership percentage and valuation were not disclosed. Foresight announcement
